Day 1: Arrival in Pangot
Morning

- Take a scenic drive from Pangot to Nainital, a quaint and picturesque village nestled amidst oak and rhododendron forests.
- You can choose accommodation, ranging from cozy homestays to nature resorts offering stunning views of the Himalayas. But I had booked a beautiful resort to stay in Pangot, which is at a very good location in Nainital. It is Laserene The cottage, which I liked very much. The best part of this cottage is the beautiful waterfall whose soothing sounds can be heard nearby.
Afternoon
- After settling in, treat yourself to a delicious lunch featuring local Kumaoni cuisine. Don't miss out on specialties like bhatt ki Churdkani (black soybean curry) and aloo ke Gutke (spiced potatoes).
- Spend the afternoon leisurely exploring the village. Wander along its winding trails, admire traditional Kumaoni architecture, and interact with friendly locals.
Evening
- As the sun begins to set, head to one of the viewpoints for breathtaking vistas of the surrounding mountains bathed in golden hues.
- Enjoy a serene evening by a bonfire with hot coffee and snacks under the star-studded sky, exchanging stories and experiences with a fellow traveller.
Day 2: Birdwatching and Nature Walks
Morning
- Wake up early to experience the magical dawn chorus of birds. Pangot is renowned for its rich avifauna, with over 580 species recorded in the area.
- Join a guided birdwatching tour led by expert naturalists who will help you spot rare and endemic species such as the Himalayan griffon, koklass pheasant, and black-headed jay.
Afternoon
- Return to my resort ( Laserene The Cottage) for a hearty breakfast amidst nature's tranquillity.
- Embark on a leisurely nature walk through the surrounding forests, soaking in the sights and sounds of the wilderness. Keep your eyes peeled for diverse flora and fauna, including colourful butterflies and elusive mammals like the barking deer and yellow-throated marten.
Evening
- Relax and unwind with a cup of locally sourced tea as I recount the day's adventures.
- Opt for a traditional Kumaoni dinner featuring organic ingredients sourced from the village and prepared with age-old recipes passed down through generations.
